The Allahabad High Court, in a significant comment on the judicial system, said cases are delayed not because solely of the fault of judges as the government and the police are equally responsible.

The court also cited the famous dialogue from the film Damini, “Date after date… If you get it, it’s only a date.”

The court made this comment while rejecting a bail plea of petitioner Mewalal Prajapati.

A single bench of Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deswal passed the order on Monday.

The court expressed concern that systemic delays allow many criminals to continue committing crimes without fear, and some even become MLAs, MPs, and ministers. It also expressed concern that judicial officers in Uttar Pradesh are not provided with personal security officers.

The court directed the Principal Secretary, Law, to present a copy of the order to the Chief Minister.
